In conjunction with the Thomas/Uber Cup Badminton Championships on 11 21 May 2000, Bank Negara Malaysia, in association with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

This commemorative coin with a face value RM10 is made of silver with 99.9 purity weighted 25 grams. A limited quantity of 20,000 pieces has been minted.

Coin Design - The same design is on all the 3 commemorative coins where on the obverse side of the coin depicts the image of the Thomas Cup with a shuttlecock in the background. The words a€?KUALA LUMPUR 2000" and a€?PIALA THOMAS.UBERa€™ is displayed on the upper and lower part of the side.

The reverse side of the coin depicts the face value of the coin with a combination of old and modern architecture in the background. Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Malayan Railway Building represent the old architecture whereas Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower represent the modern architecture.

Pewter Casing - Both gold and silver commemorative coins are presented in a round- shaped pewter casing with diameter of 70mm and 85mm respectively, which is crafted with bunga kelompang motif. The motif of bunga kelompang is widely applied in woodcarvings of Malaysian houses in the state of Perak.

Mintage: 645

Another classic "Faux Rarity" is the massive 1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific Octagonal. A total of 645 examples were produced and it appears that virtually all of the original mintage still exists. When the gold commemorative series is popular, there is legitimate collector demand for this issue. But gold commemoratives have been as a dead as a doorknob for a number of years so this level of demand tends to be more artificial.

An MS65 example is currently valued at around $125,000, which is an impressive gain over the $100,000 or so it was worth a year or two ago. Five to seven years ago, if you could find an MS65 Octagonal (it is only in the last few years that PCGS started grading MS65’s of this design with any regularity; back in the day, virtually all Gem quality examples were graded MS64) it would have set you back $50,000.

On March 16, 1802, President Thomas Jefferson signed into law a bill of the United States Congress authorizing the establishment of "a military academy to be located at West Point in the State of New York." During 2002, the Bicentennial of the founding of the United States Military Academy were observed at West Point and at other designated places throughout the world. The obverse of the 2002 United States Military Academy Bicentennial Commemorative Coin was designed by U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver James Ferrell and depicts a cadet color guard in parade exercise with the Academy's Washington Hall and Cadet Chapel in the background. The reverse was designed by U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver John Mercanti and depicts the West Point Bicentennial logo. Each coin bears the "W" mint mark from the West Point Mint adjacent to the Academy. The U.S. Military Academy Bicentennial Commemorative Silver Dollar is authorized by Public Law 103-328, section 207, signed by President William J. Clinton on September 29, 1994.
